Time, like the tides, waits for no one, but time, as with all things, moves in patterns, some say cycles, others spirals. Attending to such patterns and coming to know the various influences cycles bring, we can pick opportune, auspicious moments for our magical operations, as well as shape our intentions to align with these currents in our spell-casting making them most effective through the power of sympathy.

Join John-David (J-D) Kelley: practitioner, astrologer, and anthropologist, as we explore the application of time knowledge to magic. 

In this workshop you will learn about the importance of timing and intention; timing with the Seasons, the Sun, and Earth-Sky-Sea patterns; the role of the Moon and lunar days: use of planetary days and planetary hours: basic applications of astrology; and explore several “folk” magic timings. 

The workshop will culminate with the casting of a spell aligned the moment to apply what was learned. 

“What may be done at any time will be done at no time.” But, what may be done at a time will be done on time at the right time.

The history of western astrology — as with much of western thought — has been deeply influenced by platonism and aristotelianism. At times, the impact of this is obscured from our awareness as it is, in many ways, the sea in which we swim, an entirely ubiquitous, a priori reasoning. Equally, we are unaware of its limitations this poses to experiencing a living cosmos. In the course of this talk, JD will briefly review this relevant history and influence to then turn to alternative frameworks for experiencing our cosmos based on animist contemplations of an enchanted astrology.

Often our gaze, both visual and symbolic, is drawn to the nodes of light of the stars, wandering and fixed. While it may not be oblivious to us at first, the dark places within the sky have been storied and engaged with at various times and within various astrologies. 

In this talk, JD will explore a general overview of darkness within various traditions. Particular focus will be given to the presence and power of night and darkness within the western mystery traditions and within western astrology, namely Hellenistic. Lastly, we will look at charts of both historical persons of interests as well as from JD's catalogue of charts. In hopes that time allows, there will be an opportunity to elicit insights from the charts of those attending the talk.

Within astrology, the philosophy of archetypes runs deep within our tradition. In particular, the work of Plato and Jung have laid our course. When something lies so close to the heart, the influence is pervasive. Focusing our eye on it directly reveals the deep patterning we foretell in our astrology. We can learn a great deal from these two greats, as well as from the application and extension of their ideas emerging from the fields of archetypal astrology and cosmology.

Some of you may know that one of my other hats is as the chair for the Scottish Astrological Association. Over here we've been cookin' up something of great interest to myself—comprehensive, accessible astrology education with ample opportunity for tutorial practice. I am proud to say that along with two of my colleagues we've done just that.

CULTIVATING MASTERY is an intermediate astrology programme covering the historical, philosophical, and the practical breadth of the astrological tradition with opportunities for focused tutorials for practicing application of what you learn

In the last two years, Anna Estaroth has pioneered the online delivery of classes taught in conjunction with the SAA. This year the SAA is offering its most comprehensive programme of intermediate astrology classes ever. Mark Cullen and JD Kelley join Anna to deliver a course dedicated to cultivating mastery in your practice of astrology.

The main course will be taught live via Zoom with the opportunity for Q&A. Each session will be held from 6:30pm-8:30pm (UTC) on Mondays and Thursday until Thursday, March 25, then, due to daylight savings time in the UK, from 5:30pm-7:30pm (UTC) from Monday, March 28. All lectures will be recorded and made available to students immediately afterwards along with any material shared in the session.

Supplementary sessions are offered for practice and application. An optional workshop on delineation will be held in late March, as well as fortnightly practice-focused tutorials starting in April. Both the workshop and the tutorials will be held with no more than fifteen students per session to facilitate guidance and practice. All sessions will be held live via Zoom.

Anna wrote the Astrology column for the Saturday Scotsman for ten years and is a director of the Scottish Astrological
Association. She is currently undertaking a PhD in skyscape archaeology.

JD is a student of magical and mystical traditions both young and old and an enthusiastic practitioner of astrological magic. Mark Cullen studied with the Faculty of Astrological Studies and later completed Deborah Houlding's STA qualification in horary astrology. He was chair of the Scottish Astrological Association from 2011-16 and has been mundane astrology moderator on the Skyscript website since 2010. Mark is a strong advocate of the predictive power of mundane astrology. With an MA in history, Mark is an enthusiastic researcher into topics as diverse as ancient and medieval and renaissance astrology, fixed stars, declination, lunar nodes, comets and national charts. His most recent research area is financial astrology and stock market trends. Mark’s spiritual outlook is influenced by a long term involvement in Buddhism since his early twenties. He lives in Edinburgh working as a manager in the voluntary sector.

As part of CULTIVATING MASTERY: Intermediate Astrology Course in conjunction with the Scottish Astrological Association (SAA), we are offering each of the four modules individually.

Astrology is a practice that has been shaped by the profound history of human interaction with the living sky. As astrologers the more aware we are of this history, the philosophies that gave shape to the eyes of the ancestors of our craft, and the icons that left deep marks on this lineage, the further we move into relation to this profound history. This module explores the warp and weft of the astrological tradition steaming from its ancient past of central and western Asia, northern Africa and into Europe, and North America. Cultivating mastery requires an awareness of our lineage for we stand on the shoulders of those that came before us even as we look to the sky with contemporary eyes.

An online event taking place during the Sun-Mercury Conjunction in Cancer the domicile of the Moon, an important moment in Mercury's retrograde, we will turn our attention to connection between the emotive, the expressed, the remembered, and our participation in cosmic intelligence.

In particular, we are re-engaging our total body memory through the power of voice, to release and reorganise, to clear and cleanse, our the emotional field. We turn to the wisdom contained within the harmonies of music and astrology, both western and eastern, to re-member our innate connection to the cosmos. We turn to the divine vehicles of the voice and vibration to lead the way.

Heather Dawn Normandale is an artist and musical midwife for those who need someone to hold the mirror for them. She works with metaphor, rhyme and story line to bring out a hero’s journey or unearth the elusive but didactic shadows. Her speciality is to arrange harmony in scales and modes to make the strange familiar and the familiar strange. Information about the Course:

Venus is the planet of desire and connection, of beauty and refinement, and of pleasure and play. Learn about the astrology of this Venus Retrograde, and receive both personalised advice concerning how it will interact with your natal chart as well as experience magical and mystical insights to navigate this retrograde with grace.

This 4-part course includes:

A video on the nature and effects of Venus Retrograde;

A series of videos exploring mythology related to the sphere of Venus;

Insights into magical practices that you can integrate into daily and weekly routines to add extra power to your retrograde protocols;

Audio meditations designed to put you into the right frame of mind to ride with retrograde with grace;

An audio-guided active-imagination session to explore the manifestations of reworking the sphere Venus in your life and the otherworld.

One of the most important signatures of 2020, Venus - the planet of desire and connection - will be retrograde from 13th of May until 25th of June. Travelling through Gemini, this period will include a very powerful series of squares to Neptune.

In the not too distant past, astrology and magic were thought of as sister sciences, and while history is full of influential astrologer-magicians, magic and astrology emerged from the “dumpster fire” of the last two centuries of “rationality” estranged. Yet history clearly shows their deep affinity.

In this talk, practising occultist and astrologer JD Kelley will look at this entanglement. Through history, metaphysics, and praxis, he will delve into the coupling that gives rise to the art that is astrological magic.
